Cyprus and Egypt sign joint declaration on strategic partnership
On Friday, during the Informal EU Council summit in Nicosia, Cyprus and Egypt signed a joint declaration establishing a structured strategic partnership. The agreement was signed by Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. This six-pillar framework aims to formalize cooperation in energy, security, defense, trade, investment, technology, and education. A core component of the partnership involves energy security, specifically the development of natural gas fields such as Kronos and Aphrodite. Both nations emphasized their commitment to regional stability, the rule of law, and international law, as well as the reunification of Cyprus in line with UN Security Council resolutions. The declaration is intended to strengthen institutional ties and political coordination in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East. Both governments reaffirmed their dedication to sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the principles of the UN Charter.
