Cypriot group requests EU envoy to resume peace negotiations

The Cypriots for Peace and Solidarity movement has formally requested that European Council President Antonio Costa appoint a European envoy to restart Cyprus negotiations. The proposal calls for resuming discussions from the point where they concluded at the Crans-Montana summit under UN mediation. At a press conference held on Friday in the occupied territories, movement members including Izzet Izcan and Sener Elcil presented their letter. The group argues that a resolution is necessary to address the concerns of the Turkish Cypriot community and to resolve tensions between Greece and Turkey. They advocate for the reunification of Cyprus as a single entity within the European Union, emphasizing economic and political cooperation. Furthermore, the group expressed opposition to the current status quo, describing it as an obstacle to regional stability and the rights of the island's citizens. The movement maintains that the collective values of peace and solidarity among all Cypriot residents are the foundation for the island's territorial integrity.
