Paphos Municipal Secretary: Trapped by developments, at the time of his retirement
Deputy Mayor of Paphos, Angelos Onisiforou, is requesting state understanding regarding the temporary stay of Municipal Secretary Themis Philippides, who is currently on retirement leave. This situation arose due to the Mayor’s suspension and the resulting increased administrative needs within the municipality. Although Mr. Philippides is working pro bono to support local operations, the Ministry of Interior has intervened to demand he stop working immediately. The Ministry's Director General explained that employees on pre-retirement leave are legally prohibited from performing duties or signing official documents. Consequently, the municipality has agreed to comply with these recommendations and will appoint an acting secretary until the position is formally filled. An emergency council meeting is scheduled to address the procedural delays that led to this administrative vacuum.
