Diplomatic standoff between Iran and the United States continues
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi visited Pakistan and Oman to present proposals regarding regional security, specifically the Strait of Hormuz, and ending the ongoing conflict. U.S. President Donald Trump canceled a scheduled trip by his envoys, including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, to Islamabad, stating that the Iranian offers were insufficient and that he would only negotiate if Tehran initiated direct contact. Araghchi traveled to St. Petersburg to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, emphasizing Iran's stability and strength while reinforcing the strategic partnership between Tehran and Moscow. While Iran claims the U.S. failed previous talks due to excessive demands, the U.S. maintains that Iranian internal leadership confusion makes formal negotiations difficult at this time. Pakistan continues to act as a mediator, transmitting Iranian positions to Washington. Both nations currently face a diplomatic deadlock with no scheduled direct meetings.
