Suspect arrested following dog shootings in Pera Chorio Nisou

Two separate shooting incidents involving dogs occurred in Pera Chorio Nisou on April 10 and April 22, 2026. A dog named Rocky was shot on April 10 and is recovering from surgery to remove a pellet. A second dog, named Maili, was shot on April 22. The Animal Party of Cyprus confirmed that a suspect has been arrested, and four firearms were confiscated from them. The suspect faces criminal charges and is expected to appear in court. Initially, the Ecologists Movement-Citizens' Cooperation criticized the Nicosia Animal Police, citing delays in case management and an inability for citizens to reach the unit by phone. While the suspect claimed the dog attacked a chicken coop, this has not been substantiated, and investigations continue. The Animal Party noted that they provided assistance to the pet owners and closely monitored the police response to ensure the case was handled seriously.
