Investigation launched into shooting of a dog in Pera Chorio Nisou

On April 22, 2026, a dog named Maili was found suffering from a gunshot wound in the Pera Chorio Nisou area. The incident was reported by the Movement of Ecologists and the Animal Party of Cyprus, which have been coordinating with the owner and local authorities. A formal complaint has been filed with the Pera Chorio Nisou Police Station, and an investigation is currently underway. A suspect has been identified, and police have seized either three or four firearms from the individual. While the suspect claims the dog was attacking a chicken coop, this has not been verified. Maili received veterinary treatment and is currently not in life-threatening condition. The veterinary report will be submitted to the police as evidence to assist in the prosecution of the case.
