Mental health and Mediterranean cooperation at the forefront as the EU Meeting of Directors General for Sport concludes
The second day of the EU Directors General for Sport Meeting in Nicosia focused on the mental health of athletes and coaches. Professor Styliani Chroni highlighted the necessity of prevention and evidence-based policies for supporting both active and veteran athletes. International representatives from Sweden, FIFA, and the Council of Europe presented effective tools and best practices for psychological support. Discussions also covered Mediterranean cooperation, specifically the proposal for establishing a Mediterranean Sports Council. This proposal by the Cyprus Presidency was met with positive feedback and will be further discussed at the European Sport Forum in April. The event concluded with a commitment to use sports as a tool for health, social cohesion, and international partnership.
