Nicosia Criminal Court postpones Central Prisons document case
The Nicosia Criminal Court has postponed the trial regarding Central Prisons documents to May 5, 2026, at 09:00. The adjournment was caused by the absence of the prosecution representative due to personal reasons. During the proceedings, defense attorney Christos Triantafyllides, representing former Central Prisons Director Anna Aristotelou, raised concerns regarding the inspection of evidence. He stated that the defense has not yet been able to inspect the documents, despite a previous court order. Previously, the court had ruled that the disputed documents must be submitted for judicial review to determine if their non-disclosure to the defense is justified. The court emphasized that the burden of proof regarding non-disclosure lies with the Prosecution Authority. While 2,900 documents were made accessible, the defense contends that the prosecution's handling has obstructed the process. The upcoming session in 2026 will focus on arguments concerning document management and the right to a fair trial.
