Total vehicle registrations increased by 6.7% in January
Total motor vehicle registrations reached 4,350 in January 2026, marking a 6.7% increase compared to the previous year. Passenger saloon cars saw a 4.5% rise, with used cars making up 61% of the total registrations in this category. There is a notable shift in fuel preferences, as the market share for hybrid and electric vehicles grew while petrol-powered cars declined. Registrations for transport vehicles and buses also surged, with heavy trucks experiencing a significant increase of 43.8%. While motorcycles over 50cc grew by 13.5%, there was a sharp decline in the registrations of rental cars and mopeds. These figures, released by the Statistical Service, highlight the evolving dynamics of the automotive market at the start of the year.
