Preparations for upcoming parliamentary elections in Cyprus
General Director of the Ministry of Interior, Elikkos Ilias, announced that the decree for the upcoming elections is expected to be published between April 24 and 25. The delay is attributed to the President's attendance at an informal EU summit. Parliament was dissolved on April 23, and the general elections are set for Sunday, May 24. Preparations for the official submission of candidacies on May 6 are currently underway. Estimates indicate that 18 political parties will participate, exceeding the 15 parties that ran in the 2021 elections. Officials also expect a higher number of individual candidates compared to the seven recorded in 2021, though the final figures will be confirmed on the official submission date.
