EU institutions sign One Europe, One Market roadmap in Nicosia

On Friday at the Filoxenia Conference Centre in Nicosia, the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the Council of the European Union signed the 'One Europe, One Market' roadmap. Signed by President Nikos Christodoulides, Ursula von der Leyen, and Roberta Metsola, the initiative aims to boost EU competitiveness and strategic autonomy. The agreement encompasses 42 specific legislative and policy actions organized into five strategic pillars. These pillars focus on simplifying regulations, deepening the single market, strengthening trade partnerships, lowering energy costs alongside decarbonization, and accelerating digital transformation and artificial intelligence. The roadmap requires decisive progress within 2026 with full implementation expected by the end of 2027. To ensure accountability, the three institutions have committed to a joint monitoring mechanism involving quarterly meetings. The Commission will propose the necessary legislative initiatives, while the Parliament and the Council will prioritize their adoption through the annual legislative cycle. This effort also addresses concerns regarding the sufficiency of the current EU budget in meeting broader geopolitical challenges.
