Turkish-Cypriot academic denied entry into Turkey

Turkish-Cypriot academic and researcher Senih Cavusoglu was denied entry into Turkey upon his arrival at Antalya Airport. Authorities cited the N-82 immigration code, which is applied to foreign nationals deemed to be involved in activities against national security. Following the denial of entry, he was detained at the airport to await deportation back to Northern Cyprus. Reports from Yeni Duzen note that this incident aligns with a pattern of similar deportations of public figures since 2020, including Ozay Huseyin Kortdere, Ali Bizden, Ahmet Cavit An, Ali Kismir, and Okan Dagli. Cavusoglu is recognized for his satirical work and collages critical of the regimes in Northern Cyprus and Turkey.
