Shooting incident at Teotihuacan pyramids
On April 20, 2026, a shooting took place at the Teotihuacan archaeological site in Mexico, resulting in the death of one Canadian woman and injuries to at least 13 other people. The perpetrator was identified by authorities as 27-year-old Julio Cesar Jaso Ramirez. According to state attorney general Jose Luis Cervantes Martinez, the attack was premeditated, as the suspect had visited the site multiple times and stayed in nearby hotels beforehand. Released security footage shows the suspect wearing a mask and carrying a backpack shortly before opening fire on visitors. Following the attack, the gunman died by suicide, although initial reports from some sources suggested he may have been killed by the National Guard. The archaeological site has since reopened to the public. Official investigations confirmed that the event was not an impulsive act but a planned operation.
