Earthquake reported off the coast of Lasithi, Crete

A seismic event occurred shortly after 03:00 on Friday near the island of Crete. Sources provided varying magnitude reports, ranging from 5.5 to 5.7 on the Richter scale. According to the Geodynamic Institute, the epicenter was located in the sea approximately 7 kilometers from Goudouras in Lasithi. Estimates regarding focal depth vary, with reports citing both 5 kilometers and 9.7 kilometers. Efthymios Lekkas, president of the Earthquake Planning and Protection Organization (OASP), noted that the earthquake was widely felt across Crete, Kasos, and Karpathos. Local authorities, including Lasithi Deputy Regional Governor Giannis Androulakis, confirmed the tremor was long in duration and felt throughout the region. Civil protection units have been placed on alert to monitor for potential damage. No casualties or significant structural damage have been confirmed at this time as experts continue to evaluate the final seismic data.
