Giorgos Donis appointed as head coach of Saudi Arabia national team
The Saudi Arabian Football Federation has officially announced the appointment of Greek manager Giorgos Donis as the new head coach of the men's national team. The agreement is set to last until July 2027. Donis replaces the former manager, Herve Renard. The appointment was confirmed on April 23, coincidentally on the coach's name day. While some reports suggest his salary exceeds 5 million euros for an 18-month contract, official financial terms have not been disclosed by the federation. Donis brings significant experience in the Middle East, having previously managed clubs such as Al-Hilal, Al-Fateh, Al-Wehda, and Al-Khaleej. The team faces a challenging upcoming period, including preparation for the World Cup, where they are drawn in a group with Spain, Uruguay, and Cape Verde. The federation stated that the selection aims to ensure stability during this critical stage of the program.
