Cyprus transitions to DVB-T2 digital television standard
Cyprus is transitioning its terrestrial digital television platform to the DVB-T2 standard, with full implementation scheduled for May 1, 2026. This modernization, facilitated by the provider Hellas Sat, aims to improve signal quality and increase service capacity. The change exclusively affects viewers who receive signals via antenna, while cable and satellite subscribers remain unaffected. Households whose televisions do not support DVB-T2 must either purchase a new device or a DVB-T2 compatible decoder. Those with compatible equipment only need to perform a channel retuning. Retailers are currently reporting high demand for decoders, leading to limited local stock and potential shortages. Consequently, consumers are advised to secure necessary hardware before the end of April to avoid signal loss. Further assistance is available through Hellas Sat.
