Cypriot athletes excel at the ISSF Junior World Cup in Cairo
Cypriot shooter Achilleas Sofokleous won the silver medal in the 10m air rifle event at the ISSF Junior World Cup held in Cairo, achieving a score of 250.2 points. The gold medal was claimed by Javohir Sokhibov from Uzbekistan with 251.2 points, while the bronze went to Indian athlete Pranav Vanitha Suresh with 229.5 points. Sofokleous, who represents the Nicosia Shooting Club and is coached by Irini Panteli, has previously broken the national record for men and juniors twice this year. In a separate event at the same tournament, the Cypriot skeet team participated in several finals. Markos Kontopoulos secured fifth place in the junior men's skeet, while Andreas Pontikis finished seventh. Additionally, Sotiroula Christou competed in the junior women's final, finishing in eighth place. These results highlight a significant presence for Cypriot shooting athletes on the international stage in Cairo.
