Anorthosis faces new FIFA transfer embargo regarding Majeed Waris
On April 22, 2026, FIFA imposed a three-period transfer ban on the Cypriot club Anorthosis Famagusta. The club officially confirmed that this sanction is related to outstanding debts owed to former player Majeed Waris, rather than the pending case of Helder Ferreira. According to a Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruling issued on February 23, 2026, Anorthosis is required to pay approximately 155,000 euros to the Ghanaian striker for unpaid wages and late payment interest. The club is currently seeking a settlement with the player to lift the embargo. Meanwhile, the club continues to await the final CAS decision regarding the separate Helder Ferreira appeal. Until that final ruling is reached, a temporary measure allows Anorthosis to conduct transfers, as they did during the previous winter and summer windows. The club acknowledges the possibility that they may be unable to register new players for the 2026-27 season if the pending case does not resolve in their favor.
