CAS confirms transfer ban for Anorthosis Famagusta
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has officially upheld the FIFA ruling imposing a two-period transfer ban on Anorthosis Famagusta, covering the 2026 summer and 2027 winter windows. The severe penalty stems from the club's history of recurring financial defaults and unauthorized contract terminations, specifically citing cases involving Hélder Ferreira, Alberto Perea, and Erik Sabo, as well as an ongoing dispute regarding Majeed Waris. Although prohibited from registering new players, the club retains the right to renew current player contracts and loan agreements, such as those for Sosa, Sergiou, and Karamanolis. Furthermore, Anorthosis can recall players currently out on loan and sign youth academy prospects to professional contracts. Management has acknowledged the decision as an expected outcome of previous administrative and financial management failures. The club now faces the 2026/27 season restricted to its existing roster, necessitating careful squad management and an emphasis on internal resources. This marks one of the most significant challenges in the contemporary history of the club.
