Anorthosis Famagusta faces transfer bans from CAS and FIFA

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has finalized a ruling against Anorthosis Famagusta regarding a long-standing legal dispute with former player Hélder Ferreira. The verdict upholds FIFA's initial decision, resulting in a transfer embargo for the summer 2026 and winter 2027 transfer windows. Anorthosis stated the penalty stems from repeated regulation violations. The club is permitted to renew existing contracts, extend current loans, recall players currently on loan, and sign academy prospects to professional deals. Additionally, FIFA imposed a separate transfer ban on April 22, 2026, due to outstanding debts owed to former player Majeed Waris. This second ban can be lifted upon payment or settlement of approximately 155,000 euros. The club clarified that the second embargo is distinct from the CAS decision on the Ferreira case.
