Cypriot Defense Minister addresses National Guard's role in security
On Thursday, Cypriot Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas visited the Dimitrakis Christodoulou and Fotis Pittas military camp in Frenaros to mark the feast of Saint George, the patron saint of the Army. During his address, Palmas emphasized the ongoing commitment of the Ministry of Defense to modernize the National Guard and maintain its role as a strong deterrent force. He thanked the personnel for their professionalism and highlighted their contribution to the country's operational readiness. The Minister noted that Cyprus faces complex geopolitical challenges due to its strategic position in the Eastern Mediterranean. He stated that the state must remain adaptable and prepared to manage international developments. Referencing recent conflicts in Ukraine, Gaza, and Iran, Palmas stressed the necessity of coupling military readiness with a strong foreign policy.
