POFEN: Cautious optimism regarding decisions of the President of the Republic
The Pancyprian Federation of Student Unions (POFEN) has expressed cautious optimism regarding the President of Cyprus's announcement to modernize the Student Grant system. The government plan includes a €14 million increase in student funding, raising the total budget for state student welfare to €62 million. POFEN emphasized that these updates are the result of persistent student advocacy rather than a simple act of government goodwill. Key measures include expanding the pool of beneficiaries and removing financial criteria for large families with five or more children. Despite welcoming the changes, the federation proposed further improvements, such as raising the income limit to €70,000 and excluding primary residences from property assessments. POFEN remains committed to ensuring these measures are implemented effectively to meet the actual needs of the student population.
