Mediterranean Institute of Gender Studies launches PHAROS platform for violence victims
The Mediterranean Institute of Gender Studies (MIGS) has launched a digital platform named PHAROS (www.pharos.cy) to support victims of domestic and gender-based violence in the Republic of Cyprus. Officially presented on Thursday, the platform provides information on legal rights, support services, and resources in both Greek and English. Statistics highlighted during the launch indicate 2,098 domestic violence complaints recorded between 2024 and 2025, alongside 1,667 complaints of violence against women from 2023 to 2025. The platform features two distinct pathways for users seeking immediate assistance or general information. Integrated safety measures include direct calling options to 112 (police) and 1440 (SPAVO), a permanent emergency exit button, and instructions on clearing browsing history. The project also maintains a directory of 48 resources to assist victims in navigating police, social welfare, and specialized support services.
