Cyprus launches Pharos platform to support victims of domestic and gender-based violence
The Mediterranean Institute for Gender Studies (MIGS) has officially launched the Pharos digital platform (www.pharos.cy) to provide resources for women in the Republic of Cyprus experiencing domestic or gender-based violence. The platform serves as a central hub for information on legal rights, justice procedures, and state or non-state support services. According to official data presented at the launch, 2,098 complaints of domestic violence were recorded between 2024 and 2025, while 1,667 complaints of violence against women were reported between 2023 and 2025. Designed with input from survivors and professionals, the site includes an emergency exit button and instructions for clearing browsing history to ensure user safety. It is available in Greek and English and provides direct contact options for police (112) and SPAVO (1440). Daphne Dimitriou, a researcher at MIGS, noted that the platform is divided into two sections: one for those needing immediate assistance and another for those seeking general information. The initiative aligns with national legislation and the Istanbul Convention.
