Traffic disruptions and serious road accidents in Nicosia
Several traffic incidents and road safety measures are reported in the Nicosia region. On Wednesday morning, a collision between a car and a light truck near the Kokkinotrimithia exit on the Nicosia–Akaki highway resulted in the closure of both lanes for several hours, with traffic diverted through the village. An 87-year-old man involved in this collision was transported to Nicosia General Hospital with multiple fractures and remains in critical condition, while the 35-year-old driver of the truck was treated and released. Separately, both right lanes of the Nicosia–Larnaca highway near the Rizoelia roundabout were closed due to a water pipe burst, forcing traffic into the left lane. Additionally, a reconstruction of a fatal traffic accident from March 27 was conducted on Griva Digeni Avenue in Nicosia, requiring the closure of a section of the road for two hours on Tuesday evening. Authorities continue to monitor all locations and have urged drivers to exercise caution and comply with police instructions.
