Road safety advisories and traffic incidents across Cyprus
Several traffic incidents and weather-related road warnings were reported across Cyprus between May 2 and May 5, 2026. On May 5, a vehicle caught fire on the Nicosia-Larnaca motorway near Lympia, leading to the closure of the left lane. Adverse weather conditions, including heavy rain and sleet, have rendered roads in the Troodos mountain region slippery, with dense fog further reducing visibility; specifically, the Platres-Troodos, Karvounas-Troodos, and Prodromos-Troodos routes are affected. On May 3, a traffic accident near Livadia caused a temporary closure of the left lane on the Ayia Napa-Larnaca motorway, which was cleared by 2:00 p.m. separately, heavy rainfall led to water accumulation on the Limassol-Paphos motorway near Pissouri and Ypsonas. In Paphos, a road on Alexandrou Papagou street was closed due to downed cables near a technical school. Additionally, on May 2, cable installation works near the Mesa Geitonia exit caused temporary lane closures on the Limassol-Paphos motorway. Authorities advised all motorists to maintain low speeds, keep headlights on, and follow police instructions.
