Road accidents and highway disruptions reported in Cyprus
On the night of April 29, a 38-year-old motorcyclist was critically injured in a collision with a car on Chrysoneras Avenue in Kissonerga, Paphos; the driver, who was not wearing a helmet, remains intubated. In a separate incident on the morning of April 30, an 87-year-old man suffered critical injuries after losing control of his vehicle on Griva Digeni Avenue in Kokkinotrimithia, colliding with a light truck driven by a 35-year-old. Regarding infrastructure, the Nicosia-Larnaca highway was temporarily restricted near the Rizoelia roundabout due to a technical failure, with reports initially conflicting between a telecommunications conduit and a water pipe as the cause. The affected lanes were reopened to traffic by 6:15 p.m. on April 30. Police have confirmed the 47-year-old female driver involved in the Paphos motorcycle accident tested negative for drugs and alcohol. Investigations into both road accidents are ongoing by local traffic authorities.
