Religious commemorations on April 22 and 23
On April 22, the Orthodox Church commemorates Saint Nathanael the Apostle, also known as Bartholomew or Simon the Zealot. Nathanael, a native of Cana in Galilee, became one of the twelve apostles and reportedly conducted missionary work in Africa, Mauritania, and Britain before his martyrdom. On April 23, the Church honors Saint George the Great Martyr. Born around 275 AD in Cappadocia, George eventually became a high-ranking officer in the Roman army under Emperor Diocletian. After the emperor turned against Christianity to promote paganism, George publicly professed his faith. Consequently, Diocletian ordered his imprisonment and torture. These entries serve as traditional religious calendar commemorations.
