Suspended Paphos mayor issues statement regarding criminal proceedings
The suspended mayor of Paphos, Phedon Phedonos, issued a public statement claiming that a coordinated campaign to destroy his political and moral reputation began on January 21, 2026. Phedonos alleged that individuals targeted by his previous anti-corruption and anti-money laundering investigations are now retaliating against him with false accusations. Regarding the ongoing criminal case, he expressed frustration that he learned about key procedural developments from media reports rather than official channels. Specifically, he noted that a case was initially registered at the Limassol District Court for April 2, but was subsequently withdrawn and transferred to Paphos. The court hearing in Paphos took place on April 21, at which Phedonos was present. He pledged to address every individual allegation against him while prioritizing the criminal proceedings currently before the Assize Court. Phedonos also thanked his family for their support during this period.
