Cyprus supports Montenegro's EU accession process

President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides announced the establishment of an ad hoc working group focused on Montenegro's EU accession treaty. This initiative is a key priority during the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU, reflecting a commitment to the union's enlargement policy. Montenegrin President Jakov Milatovic thanked President Christodoulides for his support on social media platform X. Milatovic expressed confidence that preparations for the accession treaty could begin during the Cypriot EU Presidency. President Christodoulides has invited the Montenegrin leader to Nicosia for a visit on May 18. Both leaders reaffirmed their cooperation regarding Montenegro's path toward EU membership. The move is framed as part of the broader goal of a strategically autonomous and globally open European Union.
