Two Cypriot projects receive 2026 European Heritage Awards

Two cultural heritage projects from Cyprus have been named winners of the 2026 European Heritage Awards/Europa Nostra Awards. Out of 261 nominations from 40 countries, 30 projects were selected for recognition. The project 'The Cypriot Fiddler', led by ethnomusicologist Dr. Nicoletta Demetriou, received an award in the research category for its ethnographic documentation of traditional musicians from both Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities. The project includes a documentary, a book, and an open-access website. The second winner is 'Sector 2: Nicosia – The Green Line Project', developed by the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia, which was honored in the Citizens’ Engagement and Awareness-raising category. This project examines the history of the divided capital through research, exhibitions, and oral testimonies. The official award ceremony is scheduled for May 28, 2026, at the Municipal Theatre in Nicosia as part of the European Cultural Heritage Summit. During the event, five Grand Prix recipients and one Public Choice Award winner will be announced from among the 30 recognized projects.
