Meeting on hazardous building management in Cyprus
On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, presidents of the District Organizations of Local Government (EOA) met with the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK) to discuss the management of hazardous buildings. ETEK expressed its readiness to provide technical expertise for the inspection and assessment of such structures to ensure public safety. A key focus of the discussion was the proposal for a digital register of hazardous buildings. ETEK president Constantinos Konstanti noted that the chamber has submitted a proposal to the ministry to create a digital database and platform for structured reporting. Representatives of the EOA agreed with the initiative but stated that the Hippodamos system requires an upgrade to support this functionality. Mr. Yiorkatzis, speaking on behalf of the EOA, emphasized the urgency of the matter. The meeting aimed to standardize procedures and improve transparency regarding structural risks across the country.
