District self-government organizations and ETEK discuss management of hazardous buildings

On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, representatives from the District Organizations of Local Government (EOA) met with the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK) to address the management of hazardous buildings. ETEK proposed the creation of an electronic registry for such structures to improve inspection and evaluation. The EOA presidents agreed to this proposal, provided that the "Ippodamos" digital system undergoes necessary upgrades. Both parties emphasized the need for sufficient state funding to ensure effective management of structural risks. Additionally, the discussion covered the potential transfer of responsibilities regarding common-ownership buildings to the EOA. The EOA presidents set strict prerequisites for such a transfer, including the establishment of an organizational structure, new fees, and modern software implementation. ETEK President Constantinos Constantis noted that a proposal for the digital platform has already been submitted to the relevant Ministry.
