Two Cypriot heritage projects win 2026 Europa Nostra awards

The European Commission and Europa Nostra have announced that two Cypriot projects, 'The Cypriot Fiddler' and 'Sector 2: Nicosia', are among the winners of the 2026 European Heritage Awards. 'The Cypriot Fiddler', led by Dr. Nicoletta Demetriou, is a long-term ethnographic research project documenting the lives of Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot musicians through a book, documentary, and open-access website. The project 'Sector 2: Nicosia – The Green Line Project', led by the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia, explores the history of the city's divided zone through research, exhibitions, and community engagement. The official awards ceremony is scheduled for May 28 at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre. The event will be attended by Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, European Commissioner Glenn Micallef, and Europa Nostra President Cecilia Bartoli. The public is invited to vote online for the Public Choice Award, which carries a 10,000 euro prize, until May 12.
