Public hospitals adjust operations due to high atmospheric dust levels
The State Health Services Organization (OKYPY) in Cyprus has implemented special arrangements for hospital beds to accommodate an influx of patients. Recent high levels of atmospheric dust have led to an increase in people visiting Accident and Emergency Departments (TAEP). Patients presented with respiratory problems, bronchial asthma, and allergic reactions. The spike in medical issues has affected all age groups, specifically individuals with chronic pulmonary and cardiovascular conditions. Spokesperson Charalambos Charilaou noted that hospitals are managing increased pressure while maintaining readiness to provide care. Extended recovery times for affected patients have created challenges regarding bed availability. The health authority is currently managing these logistical issues to ensure all patients receive necessary treatment. Officials have advised the public, particularly vulnerable individuals, to take precautionary measures during periods of high dust concentration.
