Fireworks factory explosions in southern India

Two separate fireworks-related incidents occurred in southern India over the past few days. In the Thrissur district of Kerala, at least 13 people died and over 40 were injured during preparations for a Hindu festival when a warehouse caught fire. Separately, an explosion at the Vanaja Fireworks Industry factory in Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu, resulted in 25 fatalities and left several others injured. Authorities reported that the Tamil Nadu factory was operating on a Sunday despite regulations, with approximately 50 workers present during the blast. A secondary explosion occurred during rescue operations, causing further injuries and hindering recovery efforts. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences regarding the casualties. Local police have initiated legal action against the owners of the Tamil Nadu facility, who remain at large. Authorities are currently investigating potential safety violations at both locations, as the use of fireworks remains a frequent cause of fatal accidents in the country.
