Second victim identified in Limassol building collapse
On April 11, a two-story residential building collapsed in the Germasogeia area of Limassol, Cyprus, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. The second victim was identified as 27-year-old Leonela Alemán Morales, a Colombian national visiting Cyprus for a holiday. Her family had been searching for her after losing contact and tracking her mobile phone signal to the site of the disaster. Local police have confirmed the death, with coordination between the Colombian Honorary Consulate and authorities facilitating the identification. The first victim was previously identified as 27-year-old Dex from Nigeria. Officials, including Yiannis Tsouloftas, president of the Limassol district government, noted that the building had been inspected on February 19 and officially classified as dangerous on March 10, with owners instructed to evacuate and perform repairs. Police are currently finalizing a file for the Legal Service to determine further investigative actions into the structural failure. While some reports initially highlighted delays in official identification, the police have since confirmed the identities of both deceased.
