Rising jet fuel costs due to conflict in Iran impact European flight prices

A report by the NGO Transport & Environment (T&E) indicates that the ongoing conflict involving Iran has caused global oil market instability, pushing jet fuel prices above $100 per barrel. The analysis, published on Tuesday, compares pricing data from February 28 to April 16. It highlights that fuel costs per passenger on long-haul flights from Europe have increased by an average of 88 euros, while intra-European flights saw an increase of 29 euros. Specific examples include a 26 euro increase for flights between Barcelona and Berlin and a 129 euro increase for routes from Paris to New York. Airlines are bracing for a difficult spring and summer season, with growing concerns that fuel supply shortages could lead to flight cancellations. In response, the European Union is expected to issue guidelines to manage the constrained fuel supply. The calculations were based on average fuel consumption per passenger across European departures.
