Security measures and road closures for EU informal summit in Cyprus

Cyprus is hosting an informal meeting of EU heads of state on April 23 and 24, 2026, as part of its EU Council Presidency. Events will take place at the Ayia Napa Marina and the Nicosia Conference Centre, with the attendance of EU leaders and four regional heads of state. The police have implemented comprehensive security measures, involving the Special Anti-Terrorism Unit (MMAD), aerial surveillance, and a crisis management centre. Requisitioned hotels in Nicosia and Limassol will host the delegations, with intensive security checks for all staff and attendees. Road closures are scheduled in Nicosia, Larnaca, and Ayia Napa, affecting major motorways and urban roads. On April 23, Ayia Thekla Avenue in Ayia Napa will be closed from 16:00 to 23:00. On April 24, Aglantzia Avenue in Nicosia will be closed between the Aluminium Tower and the Akademia roundabout from 07:30 to 18:00. Authorities have requested public cooperation regarding these traffic diversions.
