Police and hospital investigate burns sustained by newborn in Larnaca
Authorities are investigating a complaint regarding a newborn baby who sustained burns to its legs on April 8, 2026, one day after being born at Larnaca General Hospital. The mother alleges that the injuries occurred during a bath given by the nursing staff, attributing the burns to excessively hot water. The Larnaca Police Petty Offenses Department has initiated an investigation to determine if any criminal offenses were committed. Simultaneously, the State Health Services Organisation (SHSO) is conducting an internal inquiry into the incident. The newborn was subsequently transferred to Makarios Hospital, where it is currently receiving treatment. Police spokesperson Spyros Chrysostomou stated that official testimonies will be evaluated upon the conclusion of the investigation. SHSO spokesperson Charalambos Charilaou confirmed that the matter is being treated as a high-priority case.
