Eurostat data on fuel price changes in March 2026

According to Eurostat data for March 2026, fuel and lubricant prices for personal transport across the European Union experienced a significant reversal, ending a period of decline that lasted until February 2026. On an annual basis, EU-wide prices increased by 12.9% compared to March 2025. Diesel prices rose by 19.8% annually, while gasoline prices increased by 9.4%. Member states saw varying degrees of price hikes, with the highest increases recorded in Germany (19.8%), Romania (19.6%), the Netherlands (18.8%), Latvia (18.5%), and Austria (17.2%). In contrast, Hungary and Slovenia recorded price decreases of 2.7% and 5.9%, respectively. In Cyprus, the annual increase was 1.5%, which remains among the lowest in the EU. However, on a monthly basis between February and March 2026, Cyprus saw sharp increases, with diesel rising by 12.9% and gasoline by 7.9%. Across the EU, monthly increases for the same period were even higher, with diesel climbing by 19.1% and gasoline by 10.6%.
