Building dispute arises at Othellos property in Nicosia
A formal complaint was submitted to the Nicosia District Local Government Organisation (EOA) regarding the Othellos building on 28th October Avenue. The complaint, filed by a business owner operating within the property, alleges that the building is being allowed to deteriorate intentionally to force tenants out without compensation. While the building has been declared unsafe, the complainant argues that structural issues are confined to an abandoned section, while other commercial units remain operational. The property owners have requested the revocation of operating permits and the demolition of the building, contingent on tenant compensation. However, the complainant claims these compensation plans lack sufficient safeguards. Furthermore, the letter highlights ongoing delays by competent authorities, noting that complaints regarding the building date back to 2014. The complainant is now requesting urgent intervention from the EOA to address safety concerns without forcing active businesses to close.
