Cruise ships transit Strait of Hormuz amid regional tensions
Cruise ship operators Celestyal and TUI Cruises have successfully navigated their vessels through the Strait of Hormuz amid heightened regional instability. Celestyal reported that the Celestyal Discovery departed on April 17, followed by the Celestyal Journey on April 18, both under coordinated security protocols involving local authorities and maritime safety teams. The ships were commanded by captains Nikolaos Vasileiou and Angelos Vasilakos. Meanwhile, TUI Cruises confirmed that its vessels, Mein Schiff 4 and Mein Schiff 5, also completed the transit after receiving authorization from relevant authorities. TUI stated that all passengers had been disembarked prior to the transit, with the ships operating only with essential crew members. Both companies indicated that the routes were determined following comprehensive security assessments. The vessels are currently navigating toward the Mediterranean Sea. The operations were characterized by strict adherence to safety and operational readiness protocols.
