Court freezes assets of former Cyprus football chief Giorgos Koumas
A Nicosia district court has issued an order to freeze €3.4 million in assets belonging to the former president of the Cyprus Football Association (CFA), Giorgos Koumas. The assets, consisting of real estate and bank funds, were frozen following an application by the Cyprus Police and the Unit for Combating Money Laundering (MOKAS). This measure ensures potential forfeiture to the state if Koumas is convicted. Koumas is scheduled to appear in court on May 6, 2026, to enter pleas for 25 criminal charges. Twenty-three of these charges relate to conflict of interest and incompatibility between his official role at the CFA and his shareholdings in two companies, Triple AAA Productions Limited and Triple AAA Village Studios Ltd. These companies were allegedly involved in broadcasting and streaming contracts between 2014 and 2025. Additionally, Koumas faces two charges of money laundering involving approximately €6.56 million in profits. He has been released on a €100,000 personal guarantee and remains under legal conditions to ensure his appearance at trial.
