Court freezes 3.4 million euros of former Cyprus Football Association president
A Nicosia district court has issued an order to freeze €3.4 million in assets belonging to Giorgos Koumas, the former president of the Cyprus Football Association. The measure, which covers real estate and bank accounts, was requested by the police and the anti-money laundering unit, MOKAS. Koumas is scheduled to enter his pleas on May 6 regarding 25 criminal charges, including 23 counts of conflict of interest and two counts of money laundering totaling approximately €6.56 million. The charges stem from allegations that he held shares in Triple AAA Productions Ltd and Triple AAA Village Studios Ltd while serving as a senior football official between 2014 and 2025. Prosecutors allege this dual role created an incompatibility regarding broadcasting contracts for football matches and other sports events. If Koumas is convicted, the frozen assets are subject to forfeiture to the state. The legal proceedings are part of an ongoing criminal case concerning his tenure in football administration.
