Limassol court denies bail for mother accused of attempted murder of her son
A 41-year-old woman is in custody after a Limassol court denied her bail application regarding charges of attempted murder of her seven-year-old son. The incident occurred on February 10, 2026, when the child's father found both his wife and son unconscious at their home. Evidence reportedly includes three empty blister packs of sedative medication discovered by the father. The child stated that his mother gave him the pills after telling him she had taken them herself for a headache. Following the event, the mother was treated at Athalassa Hospital and subsequently declared fit to stand trial. The case was formally committed to the Permanent Criminal Court of Limassol last Friday, with proceedings scheduled for mid-May. While the defense argued for conditional release, the prosecution successfully opposed bail citing the defendant's lack of ties to Cyprus and potential flight risk. Witnesses in the upcoming trial include the father, medical staff, and the child.
