Cyprus reservoir levels rise following significant April rainfall
As of Monday morning, April 20, the water reserves in Cyprus reservoirs reached 37.9 percent of their total capacity, amounting to approximately 110 million cubic meters. This marks a significant increase compared to the same period last year, when levels were at 23.6 percent. According to the Meteorological Department of the Republic of Cyprus, rainfall in April reached 175 percent of the normal monthly level, recording 52.4 mm compared to the average of 29.9 mm. Significant rainfall was recorded in Platania with 93.5 mm, Saittas with 91.3 mm, and Stavros tis Psokas with 83.1 mm. The Kouris reservoir is now 36 percent full, compared to 20 percent last year, while the Asprokremmos reservoir in Paphos has reached 39 percent capacity, up from approximately 24 percent. Over the last three days alone, inflow into the reservoirs exceeded two million cubic meters. Experts from the Water Development Department state that while the trend is positive, water supply stability remains dependent on future climate conditions.
