EU transport ministers hold video conference regarding regional tensions
The Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU organized an informal video conference for transport ministers to discuss the impact of Middle East tensions on European logistics and energy. The meeting focused on supply chain disruptions, airspace security, and volatile energy prices affecting the transport sector. Officials highlighted that while the EU does not currently face fuel shortages, rising costs for aviation fuel are placing significant pressure on the industry. The discussions aimed to coordinate national responses to prevent fragmented policies among member states. Priority areas for the Presidency include enhancing resilience in energy and transport, reducing reliance on external fossil fuels, and implementing coordinated EU-level measures. The results of these discussions are intended to inform a forthcoming European Commission toolkit, which is scheduled for release on Wednesday. These proposals will further serve as a basis for high-level discussions among European leaders later in the week.
