Nicosia Municipality presents social policy outcomes for 2025

On Monday, the Nicosia Municipality held an event at the Multipurpose Municipal Center to present its 2025 social policy report, attended by Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Clea Hadjistefanou-Papaellina. Data presented indicated that the municipality served 3,578 citizens in 2025, with Mayor Charalambos Prountzos claiming the municipality is the largest provider of social services in Cyprus after the central government. The municipality currently operates 9 social facilities, utilizes 14 school and sports venues, and employs 61 staff members. Financial aid includes €313,570 in fee discounts benefiting 4,891 residents across Nicosia, Engomi, and Agios Dometios, plus 590 residents in Aglantzia. Specific programs include the 'Rainbow' center for 50 children, the 'After the Bell' program for 49 children, and an adult center serving 50 individuals and 8 families. Additionally, 14 people receive home care, 26 receive counseling, and the Aglantzia Elderly Home provides 24-hour care for 41 residents. The Welfare Ministry continues to fund the Multipurpose Center and five of its key programs to ensure ongoing support for vulnerable groups.
