Diplomatic exchanges between Cyprus and Turkey regarding regional alliances
Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos posted a video on social media platform X demonstrating cooperation between Cyprus and various Middle Eastern and Gulf nations. This action was described as a response to recent statements made by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan at the Antalya Diplomatic Forum. Fidan had claimed that Greece, Cyprus, and Israel formed a military alliance against Muslim countries in the region, noting that weaker nations view this with concern. In contrast, the video from the Cypriot side emphasizes collaborative efforts for regional peace and includes meetings with representatives from Egypt, Jordan, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Qatar, the Arab League, and the GCC. Additionally, Nicosia is preparing to host an informal European Council meeting where leaders will engage with regional partners. Out of five invited guests, four have confirmed their attendance: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, Jordanian Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah, and GCC Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi. A response from Syrian President Ahmad al-Sara is currently pending.
